Yes, you read that right. The next book in my Thrifty Traveler series is coming out and it is for KIDS.
If you are like me and love to travel with your family, then you have probably seen first hand what traveling with children is like. If you are still waiting to take that trip then you are in for a treat. It is super exciting when planning your family’s vacation and you fantasize about the fun you will have and the memories your kids will make.
This feeling stays with you as you pack and plan for your vacation. You load everyone in the car and excitedly drive off. About twenty minutes into the trip the questions start… “Are we there yet? How long until we get there?” Followed by, “I have to go to the bathroom, and I am hungry.”
Suddenly your trip starts to lose the fantasy and reality has set in. You realize that your kids are, well your kids. They are not like the kids on TV who act perfectly and say the perfect thing all the time. This can be a bummer for a parent because this is not what you pictured. Well, there is good news… The trip is going to be amazing and the kids are going to have a great time, and remember this for the rest of their lives. It is all worth it.
However, they are kids and they do get bored easily. Here are a few tips of what I do with my kids for road and plane trips. I allow my kids to have a little bit of electronic time in the car just like I do at home. They can use their tablets/phones to play games for one hour each day we are on the road. I also have the portable DVD players in my car so they are able to watch a movie as well.
I don’t mind a little screen time but I really want them to learn when we take these trips and experience the new places that they have never been, and they cannot do this with their heads down on a screen. I started making fun pages for the kids to use when we travel such as a fun scavenger hunt and vocabulary page. I have included a few of those here.
However, I really felt like it would be good for them to have an entire activity book that they could use on any trip. That is where my new book comes in. It will be filled with pages where they can write about their dream vacation as well as journal pages to write down special notes on each trip they do take. There are coloring pages and different activities for them to use. This will help them with their memories and they will learn a little something along the way. This is also nice for parents who can look back over it as their kids grow up because we all know they grow up way too fast.
I have attached three pages here for you to print out for your little ones that they can do at home. I will be working on this activity book and it will be out before summer. Stay tuned…
Lots of Love Kaylee
